CHILD --- A beautiful word that brings out different thoughts and emotions in people’s mind. It varies from being happy, sad and filled with misery but in the midst of these emotions people tend to forget that it is beyond that child’s control whether its a boy or a girl, whether he is born into a wealthy family or a poor family , whether its a healthy child or a disabled child.

Imagine a country like India and Srilanka where every day about 10000 children do not live to celebrate their 1st birthday for reasons or causes which are preventable. Where hundreds and thousands of children below the age of 9yrs are working for their livelihood . Where on the streets you see thousands of children begging.

Imagine your child being pulled out of school because you don’t have a job to support your family or your daughter can’t attend the high school because its in the next town .

This is where the Vision of RAINBOW FOUNDATION took place. It was established in the year 2004.

San, the founder of Rainbow Foundation being born in Sri Lanka in the year 1966 had experienced and seen the hardships of the children because of the war trodden climate which has worsened with time. And on his visit to India he was distressed to see the children living on the footpaths and begging for their livelihood. Though capitalism has entered India and third world countries it has not done much to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich but has further widened it.

After he came back he didn’t sit tight feeling sorry for these children but with few people believing in the same cause, he promised to fill these children’s dark life with the seven colours of the rainbow.

And that is how the existence of RAINBOW FOUNDATION took place.

We at Rainbow Foundation are the voice of these children . We work with these deprived children , their parents and communities to bring them together and work towards a goal because the solution is not to provide only the educational facility to the child but to address the root cause that keeps them HUNGRY,ILLITERATE and DEPRIVED.

Our mission is to help deprived and disadvantaged children wherever they are. We aim to reduce administration costs and use all your donations to support the children you want us to help and need it most. You can ‘adopt one of our projects’ and be kept fully updated on progress. Our ambitions are large but we have already started a successful project with every hope of making this one of the most effective Charities in the world.

Our first project started on the 1st of Dec 2008 in Jaffna( Sri Lanka) providing funding for 14 Children who have lost one of their parents due to war.

With the help of various people who have generously contributed towards the cause, which has enabled us to extend our hand in fulfilling our promise to these children.

We are happy to acknowledge the fact that these 14 children can again look forward to a better sunrise of tomorrow which will bring them hope about their future with the belief that they don’t have to go to sleep hungry anymore , that they do not have to stop going to school because they cannot buy clothes or books.
